More than 925 Million people worldwide are affected by hunger – even though food is a human right.
One Millenium Development Goal focuses on the decrease of the hungry by one halv. That this goal can be achieved until 2015 is highly doubted. The situation has improved since 1990, still it remains a serious threat. Especially African countries and Southeastasia are affected by hunger.
There are various reasons for hunger: disregard of rural areas, farming economy and women, as well as a lack of democracy and democratic decision-processes. Political and economical decisions, both in Europe and USA, also contribute to the fact that every 7th person is affected by hunger.

October 16th is World Food Day. We have chosen several projects on betterplace.org which deal with the topic and which are trying to improve the situation. Important to us: each of this projects encourages sustainability and independence. There is no such thing as a shortage on food, it’s just that food is not spread euqally.
Be active and start sharing:
…start a chicken farm in India.
…set up a food tent to grow vegetables in South Africa.
…help people in Kenya to use rainwater for fruit and vegetable cultivation.
…secure diverse nutrition with a pack of seeds for those who need it most: HIV-infected people in Southa Africa or donate a shopping basket filled with goods.
